The case of fugitive diamond trader Mehul Choksi will be heard again in the Dominica High Court today.
Mumbai: The case of fugitive diamond trader Mehul Choksi will be heard again in the Dominica High Court today. India is trying its best to extradite Choksi. Seeing this, a squad is stationed in Dominica, commanded by CBI officer Sharda Raut. Raut is leading the probe into the Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam and is playing a key role in bringing Mehul Choksi back.
2005 Batch’s IPS officer
Sharda Raut is in Dominica and has 6 officers along with other CBI officials. According to India Today, Mehul Choksi will be extradited to New Delhi by Indian authorities on a private plane if a Dominica court orders his extradition. Sarada Raut is leading the team that brought Choksi to India. Raut is a 2005 batch IPS officer from Maharashtra.
Argument in Dominica Court
Indian officials have held several rounds of talks with the Dominica administration to make India’s case at the hearing. The team is said to have submitted ED’s affidavit in Dominica court along with information about Mehul Choksi’s criminal activities. The documents state that Choksi is a citizen of India. The Indian team is trying to convince the court that India wants the man in Dominica’s custody from January 2018 and he should be extradited to India immediately on the basis of a red notice issued by Interpol.
Indian citizenship not given up
In today’s hearing, Indian team Mehul Choksi will argue that he acquired Antigua citizenship in November 2017, but he has not relinquished his Indian citizenship to date. So he is still an Indian citizen. CBI officer Sharda Raut, who is leading the squad, is also the SP of Palghar. That being said, they had a lot of control over the crime. Apart from this she has worked in many places like Nagpur, Mira Road, Nandubar, Kolhapur, Mumbai.
