New Delhi: Technology giant Satya Nadella has been appointed as the new chairman of Microsoft Corporation. Since 2014, Nadella has been the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Microsoft Corporation. In 2014, John Thompson took over as chairman of the company from Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates. The post has now been handed over to Satya Nadella, with Thompson taking over as Lead Independent Director.
Primary education was done in Hyderabad
Satya Nadella was born in 1967 in Hyderabad. His father was an administrative officer and his mother was a professor of Sanskrit. Satya Nadella received her early education at Hyderabad Public School. In 1988, he studied engineering from Manipal Institute of Technology and later obtained his MA in Computer Science. He then went to the United States for higher education. In 1996, he completed his MBA from the Booth School of Business in Chicago.
Taken to the heights of Microsoft
In 2014, Satya Nadella took over the helm of Microsoft. The company was going through a lot of trouble when he accepted the position. Nadella not only pulled the company out of the crisis, but also gave it new energy. Nadella became CEO in 2014, when his rivals Apple and Google took the lead with a focus on mobile. Nadella brought the company to that competition. He focused on cloud computing, mobile applications, and artificial intelligence. Also took office software forward. Nadella’s policies resulted in a net profit of around Rs 316 crore to Microsoft in 2019. Which was a staggering 65 per cent more than last year.
Preference to cloud computing
Satya Nadella preferred cloud computing. His move helped the company grow. That is why he is also called ‘Cloud Guru’. They focused on making software and services available for rent from data centers. Moreover, he made major organizational changes in the company.
