There is good news for the man’s side in the ongoing war against Corona. India has proved its ‘self-reliance’ in corona vaccine as well as in corona vaccine. Indian scientists at DRDO have developed a drug called ‘2-DG’ for the treatment of corona, and its various tests have been successful.
Based on the data available from the tests, the Drug Controller General of India on Saturday approved the drug for emergency use. The drug is widely known as ‘Drug 2-Deoxy-D-Glucose’ (2-DG) and will be a great option in the treatment of corona infected patients. The report of the patients on whom this drug was used has been negative.
This drug has been successful in preventing corona infections as well as speeding up the healing of the patient. The drug was tested by DRDO’s (Defense Research and Development Organization) Institute of Nuclear Medicine laboratory. Created with the help of Reddy’s Laboratory. This drug improves the patient’s oxygen level, it was found in the initial tests.
The second phase tested on 110 patients
The DRDO began testing the second phase of the drug on corona patients in May 2020. The drug proved to be safe and effective in the testing process that lasted until October 2020. The second phase of the test examined the effect of the drug on 110 patients from 17 hospitals.
Testing on 220 patients in the third phase
From December 2020 to March 2021, 220 corona patients were tested in the third phase. The test was conducted in 27 hospitals in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Delhi, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. On the third day of the trial, the patient’s oxygen dependence decreased from 42 percent to 31 percent.
Results in two and a half days
During the first wave of corona in April 2020, the drug was tested in a laboratory in collaboration with Cellular and Molecular Biology in Hyderabad. Within two and a half days of comparative testing with the ‘Standards of Care’ criteria, the drug was found to be making positive changes in the patient.
Dissolved in water
The drug is in powder form, dissolved in water and given to the patient to drink. The drug reaches the infected cells directly and stops the growth of the virus. Importantly, huge production of this drug can be done easily.
