Declare journalists in the state as immediate frontline workers; Letter of Devendra Fadnavis to the Chief Minister

Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Devendra Fadnavis has sent a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray demanding immediate release of all journalists and cameramen in the state’s media and audio-visual media as frontline workers and giving them priority in vaccination.

MUMBAI: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Devendra Fadnavis has sent a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray demanding immediate announcement of frontline workers for all journalists and cameramen in the state’s public and audio-visual media.

In a letter to the Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis says that journalists from the media and audio-visual media have been declared as frontline workers in about 12 states of the country. Unfortunately, this decision is still pending in Maharashtra. Many senior journalists in the state, various journalists’ associations are constantly demanding in this regard.

After all, journalists in the state also staged a token agitation through online media. In the first wave of the Corona outbreak, we released several journalists. Even in this second wave, the number of victims of this disease is large. As such, it is our duty to take care of their safety and survival. If they are declared frontline workers, they will automatically get priority in vaccination.

During these Corona epidemics, these journalists are working by visiting hospitals, cemeteries, and interacting directly with the masses to express their grievances. Journalists and the media have also been instrumental in raising awareness about Corona preventive measures. The number of journalists infected with the corona is very large.

It is incomprehensible why the government is silent on this very important question. Journalists in the state are in a similar situation as many departments of the state government are not able to work from home during the corona lockdown.

This fourth pillar of democracy has to work on the spot. So they have to deal with this crisis. Devendra Fadnavis has demanded that a decision in this regard should be taken immediately and without delay.
