Cyclone Tauktae: Chance of strong winds in Mumbai on 15th and 16th May, system alert

Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s vigilance instructions

Mumbai: According to the Indian Meteorological Department, a hurricane named ‘Taukte‘ is forming in the Arabian Sea and it is expected to come close to Mumbai on May 15 and 16. This has led to strong winds and rain. Mumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal has instructed all the systems of the corporation to remain vigilant and well equipped.

Against this backdrop, pruning of dangerous trees, action to be taken against settlements near the coast, arrangement of flood defenses, deployment of rescue teams with equipment at 6 main intersections, equipping of emergency management system and timely notification to the citizens. Export orders have been issued.

Citizens are urged to be vigilant and avoid going to the beach. The Municipal Corporation has taken special care at the site of Kovid Center. The trees around the center have been pruned.

Hospitals have also been instructed to be prepared in case of power outages. Considering the possibility of power outage, it should be ensured that the generator and other necessary alternative arrangements in the hospital area are well equipped and functional. It is also suggested that the required fuel should be made available so that there is no adverse effect on the facilities provided to the patients.
