Center instructs states to prevent infection
New Delhi: Lockdown could be imposed in many districts of the country in view of the growing contagion of corona virus. The Central Government has prepared a proposal in this regard. In which the states have been directed to prevent the infection by imposing strict security in the most sensitive districts. However, the Center has further said that it will provide relief to essential services from lockdown.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said in the proposal that if the lockdown is not implemented in the district concerned, the incidence of infection could increase rapidly. Lockdown has been proposed in 150 districts with an infection rate of more than 15 per cent. Excluding essential services, lockdown will have to be implemented in these districts, otherwise the burden on the health system will increase significantly, the Center said.
The Union Health Ministry had recommended this at a high-level meeting on Tuesday. But the central government will take the final decision after consulting the state governments. This proposal could be further improved, increasing the stress of cases and controlling the positivity rate.
Earlier on Sunday, the Center had said that strict security measures should be put in place in districts where the positivity rate has been above 10 per cent in the last one week. A senior official said the chain of transmission could be broken only if a strict lockdown was imposed for a few weeks in areas with high positive numbers.
